What is the reason behind why the lights in some restaurant are so dimly lit that you can barely see your food?

Romantic atmosphere. Everyone knows if you want to do a seduction, you feed your partner a good meal by candlelight. Unfortunately, restaurants have taken this to mean they feed you in the dark. They forget about the aging population who have difficulty seeing without glasses let alone without light. Better restaurants will often provide you with a small flashlight if you ask.
